Martin Nicholson's Cemetery Project
Canley Cemetery, Coventry, Warwickshire
It took three visits to survey all the graves in Canley Cemetery and it would have been four visits had we not conscripted our younger daughter to help with the task! Thank you Sally.
It is far harder to find the grave of a man who reached the age of 100 than it is find one for a lady reaching the same age.
Age 100.
Reaching the age of 103 is far more unusual than "just" reaching the age of 100.

We were very pleased to find a second example of a person reaching the age of 103.
Age 100.
Reaching the age of 104 is even rarer and proved to us that Canley was an outstanding source of material for our project.

This was an unusual find - neither of us could recall seeing a picture of a bus on a gravestone before. Perhaps he worked for a bus company?

Age 102.
The picture of the Last Supper looked most attractive on this headstone.
This lady was recorded as being 100 years old but her dates of birth and death seemed to show she was 99 and not 100. However I seem to remember that Chinese people are regarded as being aged 1 at birth rather than aged 0 as is the case in England.
This lady loved cats.
Age 102.
Age 101.
This was a very curious grave - singularly uninformative with no dates or surname.
Age 100.
An unusual request at the top of the grave,
Age 100.
Age 102.

This stone seems to be incomplete and is the only example of this "error" we have noticed during the survey.
